Last Christmas, I
gave my son Painter
6, thinking that he could learn the program in his
spare
time and eventually come to love it as much as I do. Well, he's played
with Painter
alright,
but someone else in the family is turning out the paintings now. She's
bored with the paint program that comes with Windows and says she wants
to use "... the good one." (Painter,
of course!)
In this section of PIXELALLEY,
you'll see paintings done by my 4 year old grandaughter.. and me.
We've begun a Painter Exchange.
She (her Dad, really) sent me the first one, "jodybo
1", and I responded by sending her one that I did
in the same playful spirit (or as close as I could come to it, being
just
a tad older and considerably less spontaneous).
I tried to guess which brushes she'd picked for her first painting,
to use them in my painting, but soon forgot about that in the fun of
using Painter,
as you'll see in "color
dance".
As I write this on May 20, 2000, I owe Jody a painting
(she's just sent
me her second one, "jody's
flowers 2", which includes the use of layers that
are shown on several pages - hit "next" to see each one). We'll see how
that one goes and I'll post it when it's finished and sent off to her.
It's a bit intimidating, painting with a fearless 4 year old!
Jody did these paintings by herself, only relying on her
Dad to open
the canvas. In fact, neither he nor Jody's Mom were with her when she
painted,
and only saw the images after Jody announced they were completed. Her
second
painting is shown in several stages, from the bottom up: The painted
canvas,
added text, a painted layer, more text, and some more painting on the
top
layer for the completed image.
The small images on this page were created using Painter's
Dynamic Layers Kaleidoscope on both Jody's paintings
and mine. There will be new ones as our Painter
Exchange continues.
