| This is the result of my first attempt to create text
"carved" into a stone surface. It's not what I was hoping for and, in fact,
looks like a thin surface layer of "stone" with another layer of cracked
wheat bread dough (with molasses) below/behind it about 1/32".
Back in October, 2000, several of us on the PainterWorld
list worked on creating engraved or carved text and even using Painter's
Bevel World plugin didn't quite give us what we were after.
I think my drop shadow is too wide in the example above
but even in the next
example, where the drop shadow is less wide, the text still
doesn't look cut out of the surface. It looks more like the surface and
recessed text were created in a mold. (Some of this is no doubt optical
illusion which tends to make things confusing, especially after you've
been staring at it for a couple of hours!)
In any case, there are tutorials for recessed and engraved
text on the following two pages. See if you can find the solution and make
your text really look like it was carved or etched into stone, wood, or
metal. Think of a real-life chisel and maybe go take a look at some gravestones.
....
.. it's almost Halloween....
why not?
